Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secret Review: Rating 4.7/5 <Super Highly Recommended>

Looking at the poster again… it already feels like the trio has grown up a lot by this point, doesn’t it?

Maybe it’s because I grew up reading the books and watching the films myself,

but I felt more immersed in this one than ever.

***************Genre: Fantasy / Magic / Mystery************

It’s hard to describe, but I think the Harry Potter series gave the world one of the clearest and

most vivid blueprints for imagining a magical fantasy world.

Even now, the book cover still holds up beautifully.

The illustration, especially those snake carvings on the pillar—what a perfect choice.

A Darker and More Mysterious Second Year

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets takes a much darker and more mysterious turn compared to the first film.
Where Sorcerer’s Stone introduced the magical world with wonder and whimsy,

this one plunges us into a suspenseful mystery as Harry faces a series of terrifying events shaking the entire school.

The story begins with Harry spending another dreadful summer at the Dursleys’.

This time, he’s locked in his room.

One night, a strange creature named Dobby the house-elf appears and warns him not to return to Hogwarts,

claiming that terrible things are going to happen.

(Dobby’s “Dobby is free!” became such a legendary meme moment later on)

Sweet family as always

Of course, Harry refuses to listen and escapes with Ron’s help—by flying car, no less.
They head to Diagon Alley, where he reunites with Hermione and encounters the ever-creepy

Malfoy family at Borgin and Burkes.

it is indeed a contrast..

The contrast between the warm, loving Weasleys and the cold, elitist Malfoys is so stark here

—and honestly, very effective.

One of the most memorable (and hilarious) scenes from this film is when Harry and Ron miss the train and

instead drive the enchanted car all the way to Hogwarts.

Watching it again, I still laughed out loud—what a wild way to kick off the school year.

Enter Gilderoy Lockhart – The Phony Hero

With Professor Quirrell gone, the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher this year is none

other than Gilderoy Lockhart.

haha Harry's arm got no bones at all lol

He’s flashy, dramatic, and obsessed with his own fame, constantly bragging about all his alleged heroic feats.
As time goes on, it becomes clear that he’s more of a fraud than a hero—

he lives off of his reputation, not real skill.

And seriously, the scene where he messes up Harry’s broken arm? Still comedy gold.

The Chamber Has Been Opened

Soon after the term begins, strange things start happening.
Students—and even Filch’s cat—are found petrified, and chilling messages appear on the walls: The Chamber of Secrets has been opened. Enemies of the heir, beware.

Legend has it that the Chamber houses a monster controlled by the Heir of Slytherin,

who seeks to purge the school of Muggle-born students.

Harry and his friends begin investigating.

During this time, Harry accidentally reveals his ability to speak Parseltongue, the snake language

—something rare and commonly associated with dark wizards.

The other students begin to suspect that Harry might be the Heir of Slytherin himself,

and he finds himself increasingly isolated.

Eventually, Harry discovers an enchanted diary in the girls’ bathroom where Moaning Myrtle haunts.
The diary belongs to someone named Tom Riddle, who witnessed similar events fifty years ago.

Uncovering the Truth

When Harry writes in the diary, it responds magically and shows him a memory from the past

—where a young Tom Riddle accuses Hagrid of opening the Chamber and releasing the monster.

Harry is shaken, unsure of what to believe.

But before he can learn more, Hagrid is sent to Azkaban. Thankfully, he leaves a cryptic clue behind.

Following it, Harry and Ron venture into the Forbidden Forest and meet Aragog, a giant spider.

Aragog reveals the truth: the monster isn’t his kind—it’s something far worse. A Basilisk.

(Also, even though Hermione’s screen time feels a bit shorter in this one due to the plot,

her presence is always powerful. Total icon.)

Hermione making Poly juice is so cute in this scene....haha

Soon, more students are petrified. But before she was attacked, Hermione left behind one final clue

—confirming that the monster is a giant serpent, and people have only seen it through reflections,

which is why they weren’t killed outright.

Harry, Ron, and Lockhart head to the entrance of the Chamber of Secrets, hidden within a girls' bathroom.
Of course, Lockhart tries to escape responsibility and

ends up accidentally erasing his own memory in the process. Classic.

The Final Confrontation

Inside the Chamber, Harry comes face-to-face with Tom Riddle—

who reveals he is the younger version of Voldemort.

Riddle summons the Basilisk, but Harry is saved by Fawkes the phoenix and receives the Sword of Gryffindor.

The fight is intense and symbolic—Harry isn’t just fighting a monster, he’s confronting fear, destiny, and

Voldemort’s legacy.

Using the sword, he defeats the Basilisk. Then, he destroys the diary with a Basilisk fang, vanquishing Riddle’s soul.

The Aftermath

Back at school, everything returns to normal.
Hagrid is cleared of all charges, the petrified students are restored, and Dumbledore reassures

Harry that it’s our choices—not our abilities—that show who we really are.

And of course, Dobby is freed thanks to Harry tricking Lucius Malfoy into handing him a sock.
Truly one of the most heartwarming moments in the entire series.

As the school year ends, Harry, Ron, and Hermione are closer than ever,

their friendship forged even stronger through mystery, danger, and trust.

Chamber of Secrets builds on the magical universe with darker tones and higher stakes.
It’s here we start to see Harry’s fate slowly intertwine with Voldemort’s in more complex and emotional ways.

Friendship, bravery, and the pursuit of truth remain central—and by the end, you’re left wanting more.

Honestly… I can’t wait to rewatch Prisoner of Azkaban now.

This series is dangerously addictive. If I’m not careful, this blog might turn into a full-blown Harry Potter archive 😂

If you haven’t watched it yet—what are you doing?! Go watch it. Like, right now. 10,000 times if you can.
